What is a CLT and why should you care? You just get so much for £1…
Pewsey CLT serves its community, in this case the parish of Pewsey, to build, maintain and manage locally affordable rented housing for local people - for you, your children and your grandchildren. It may also seek to develop other projects for the community benefit such as Community Energy schemes. PCLT is a “Not for Profit” organisation and any surplus goes back to supporting community activities. Its members are only liable for the £1 membership fee payable on joining, which lasts for life and for no further liabilities. Members should be over 16 years of age and live or work locally. We would like to see some younger families and individuals signing up as members. Joining forms are now available at the Little Lunch Box and in Pewsey Library.
Once built the affordable rented housing will be made available to people who can demonstrate a local connection. The King Alfred Court Community Right to Build Order (CRtBO) is a one-time option to deliver affordable housing in the centre of the village owned by the CLT for the community for ever.
The directors of Pewsey Community Land Trust would like to thank all those members and the residents of Pewsey who attended, or responded, to the community event on Monday March 20th and the AGM on Monday April 24th for their time and input. Both events generated some considered questions about the proposed development at 8 Market Place, now generally known as the King Alfred Court development. The concerns over the impact of a building of three storeys and the impact of the building materials used have all been noted. Whilst every effort will be made to accommodate concerns, the project does have to be cost effective and deliverable, so inevitably there will be some compromises to be made. Opportunities to have further consultations will be part of the process of applying for a “Community Right to Build Order”. Regular monthly updates are being posted online on the PCLT website, via email to members and in the Pewsey Messenger.
