What is a CLT?

  • A CLT provides affordable housing and delivers other assets for the community. It is not part of national or local government and operates on a not-for-profit basis.
  • A community land trust is a community owned and controlled organisation with an open and democratic structure.

What will be the benefit to Pewsey of a CLT?

  • There is and will continue to be pressure on further development throughout the UK. A CLT based in the parish of Pewsey will be able to develop houses and other assets for the benefit of the community.

Why does the provision of affordable housing and community assets matter?

  • The Housing Needs Survey (2019) shows the continuing need for ‘homes to rent’ for the local population. Pressure is building for all age groups with an increasing elderly population
  • The Pewsey Neighbourhood Plan reinforced the need for ‘homes to rent’ as housing developed is For Sale or subject in time to the Right to Buy. North East Wiltshire has become the least affordable part of the county.
  • Two public meetings have been held and there has been strong support for the idea of providing affordable homes for local people.
  • Housing can be developed in many different ways to ensure that it remains within the reach of young and old alike
  • We have the opportunity to determine the type and scale of housing that is appropriate to the local populations’ needs, rather than accepting a developers’ choice.
  • Pewsey CLT creates a unique opportunity for the Parish and residents to take back decision making and to shape the scope and nature of the Parish going forward.
